Samuel describes the print in his own words- This print is based on a painting with the name Locus XI (Cásca) made in 2015 and exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy exhibition early in 2016. Cásca is the Irish for Easter. My intention with both the print and the painting was to take the colours associated with the Easter Rising and assemble them in such a way as to reflect the activity, intention, confrontation and confusion associated with that event. Lines in my work always reflect activity. The lines in the print are denser as it is a much smaller area than the painting which was 150x150cms.

I am not depicting or describing the Easter Rising in this print. I am reflecting on the incident as a subject matter. The intention is to make something new out of what happened. I leave it to those more interested in other printing and painting forms to illustrate history.
